A LITTLE OUT OF TOWN AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRANKLINTON ARTS DISTRICT.
Out of town
OUT of TOWN is a 45 unit apartment building designed within the constraints of the most ubiquitous multi-family typology, the “three story walk-up” to create unexpected results. Its siting is between a redeveloping warehouse arts district and a predominantly single family neighborhood, and the project morphs between the conditions, from gables to a sawtooth roof that rolls down the side of the building.

This allows for surprising lofty third story units (tradeoff for climbing stairs) and window apertures and balconies disguise the unrelenting ‘mirroring and flipping’ attribute of the type to create a dynamic rhythm along the street.
